I have never written a review on anything really, but I thought it was important in this case. I have been dealing with arthritis for probably 15 years. I was essentially given 2 choices, go in Allopurinol and hope they prevent me from getting sprouts. However, I would have to take a pill every day, and this medication has upset my stomach in the past. Option 2 is to treat an outbreak when it occurs with the medication, and I went this route, Colcichine which is the medication to treat this. The problem is that it never seems to work, and I recently had a terrible gout attack. I got Prednisone, and it really worked miracles. I was probably 70% better after 1 full day, and now almost 100% after 3 days. I am more than satisfied with this medication!

I went to see my GP for a doctor’s certificate to take 2 days off from work due to a persistent cough (I am nurse and could not work around patients like this). I also had a sore throat which was getting better and wasn’t really bothering me anymore. My GP decided to give me Prednisone 40mg per day for 5 days. That was on a Tuesday morning. As soon as I got home i took the first dose of Prednisone. That night I woke up around 03h00 with the most painful throat I have ever had. By Thursday night I could hardly swallow my saliva let alone any food or drink. I looked up the side effects and saw that you have to let your doctor know if you have a persistent sore throat. I did not take the rest of the tablets and am now waiting to see if things are going to clear up over the next 7 days. Good luck to me.

This is an antibiotic that has figured prominently in recent news items about cases of Duchenne due to premature "stop codons." In these cases the complete gene for dystrophin is never "decoded" or translated so that this critical muscle protein is not made, or at least not made in full form. Research on mdx mice that simulate human Duchenne has shown that when gentamycin is administered, the premature stop codon is somehow ignored so that the entire gene transcript can be "read" and dystrophin can be produced. A preliminary trial on Duchenne young men is underway, and hopes are high that this will work in humans as well as it did in the model mice. Unfortunately, this treatment would only work for those instances (about 10% of all Duchenne cases) in which the gene defect is a premature stop codon.
